A word to the wise: Never let Saoirse Ronan design your tattoo. Ed Sheeran apparently learned this lesson the hard way after the actress saddled him with some purposefully misspelled permanent body ink. Though we have to hand it to Saoirse: Her tat typo is pretty hilarious.
Ed unveiled the new ink at a concert in Glasgow on Sunday and told the crowd of fans how the whole thing went down. Remember last week when the filming of the singer/songwriter's music video for his latest single "Galway Girl" caused a literal mob scene on the streets of the Irish city? Well, the Irish-born Saoirse is part of the project, and Ed explained that he wanted a tattoo of the name of the track written in the Oscar nominee's handwriting to commemorate the shoot.
"When we were filming it, I meant to get a tattoo of her handwriting saying Galway Girl," he said on stage, holding up his right forearm, where the tattoo presumably resides, for the audience to see. "It actually says Galway Grill... G-R-I-L-L."
He went on to reveal that, yes, Saoirse misspelled the word on purpose as a joke, but Ed's not mad. In fact, he's into Saoirse's edit to his song title. "Thought I'd tell you that. Haven't told anyone about that yet," Ed continued. "I'm actually kind of proud of it. It's the kind of thing that I would do."
After all, Ed does have more than 60 tattoos in total, so one misspelled one isn't really quite the travesty you would think it would be. The singer recently showed off many of them in his (shirtless) music video for "Shape of You," including that "kerfuffle"-causing lion art on his chest.
What can we say, the man likes his ink — correctly spelled or not.
